Golf - General Information
The beautiful natural setting on this coastal sea island provides a stunning environment for courses designed by three legendary golf architects. The entire golf program, from the clubhouses to practice facilities to the three championship layouts, are infused with a lasting commitment to quality and customer service. All three facilities are equipped with air conditioned golf carts that heat and cool with a flick the switch. Segway Golf Transporters are also available, allowing golfers to save time by riding directly to their shots at speeds of up to 12.5 miles and hour. Coolers and rear weather protectors are also standard on each golf cart.
The yardage markings systems on all three courses include permanent markers on the cart paths at 100, 150 and 200 yards, 150 yard stakes in the middle of the fairways and randomly placed plaques that are measured to the front, middle and center of the green. Scorecards include info on the green designs and pin placements. Each clubhouse has a pro shop and restaurant/lounge that serves breakfast and lunch menus. The Jones clubhouse also has a locker room with showers.
George Fazio Course
The Fazio Course has been rated with 4 stars by golf Digest Places to Play, and also has been noted as One of America's Top 100 Courses. There is no range on property here, but golfers can warm up with "birdie balls" - limited flight balls in a convenient practice area near the first tee. This is the only par 70 course on the Island, and features 51 soft sand bunkers along the landing zones or greenside, with 7 holes having water in play in some shape or form.
The Greens feature TifDwarf Bermuda, and the tees and fairways are over-seeded with rye during the winter. The raised putting complexes are well protected by penal greenside bunkers, along with mounding and swales. The tree lined fairways often provide generous landing zones, are gently rolling and are laced with the occasional sand trap. The layout is known for its long par fours - with 8 of them measuring over 400 yards from the tips. The 462 yard par four 18th is widely recognized as the island's truest championship challenge.
There are five sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 6873 yards/138 slope, 6534 yards/132 slope, 6239 yards/126 slope and 5478 yards/116 slope and 5104 yards with a slope of 120 for ladies hitting from the forward tees.
