Golf - General Information
The beautiful natural setting on this coastal sea island provides a stunning environment for courses designed by three legendary golf architects. The entire golf program, from the clubhouses to practice facilities to the three championship layouts, are infused with a lasting commitment to quality and customer service. All three facilities are equipped with air conditioned golf carts that heat and cool with a flick the switch. Segway Golf Transporters are also available, allowing golfers to save time by riding directly to their shots at speeds of up to 12.5 miles and hour. Coolers and rear weather protectors are also standard on each golf cart.
The yardage markings systems on all three courses include permanent markers on the cart paths at 100, 150 and 200 yards, 150 yard stakes in the middle of the fairways and randomly placed plaques that are measured to the front, middle and center of the green. Scorecards include info on the green designs and pin placements. Each clubhouse has a pro shop and restaurant/lounge that serves breakfast and lunch menus. The Jones clubhouse also has a locker room with showers.
Arthur Hills Course
The Arthur Hills Course has garnered a 4 ½ star ranking from Golf Digest Places to Play, and features understated bunkering (just 14 sand traps along the layout) and significant water features (10 holes have water in play in some shape or form with several forced carries. The sand traps are low lipped and easy to escape, and the tree lined fairways often provide plentiful room - but the undulating topography and rolling terrain feature plentiful mounding both greenside and near the landing zones.
Thick strands of palmettos and plentiful palm trees line this beautiful course, which was built on a series of rolling dunes. Inaccurate tee shots will often result in uneven lies, with the ball above, below or sideways to your stance. The nearby ocean breezes consistently affect ball flight here as well. There is a full service practice facility with grass range, putting green and short game area.
Four sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 6651 yards/136 slope, 6122 yards/125 slope, 5227 yards/113 slope, and 4999 yards with a slope of 123 for ladies playing from the forward tees. As the slope ratings indicate, this layout is challenging from the tips, but very playable as a resort experience from the 3 remaining sets.
